NUTS for OLDIES
GENERAL
  • THESE nuts are very nutritious for heart, brain, nervous system etc, but can pose problems, especially if the quantity eaten is not MODEST.
  • They make quite strong demands on the digestion, so it is best to eat them BEFORE 18:00 in the evening. Eating MOST things late at night is a BAD IDEA, but especially NUTS.

BRAZILS Brazils are a rare source of selenium but the latter is dangerous if over-consumed. ONE BRAZIL NUT per day is enough to give you the selenium you need. TWO should be the absolute maximum.

PISTACHIOS These bought in shops are often VERY HIGHLY SALTED. Look for RAW, UNSALTED form or WASH THEM before eating.

These are ALSO nutritious but best avoided for various reasons.

PEANUT BUTTER - It usually has a lot of SALT, SUGAR and HYDROGENATED OILS, so BEST AVOIDED.
