SPEAKING IN PUBLIC

  • NEVER BEGIN until there is silence.
  • Make people feel at ease: welcome them, look into their eyes, SMILE.
  • Be CLEAR and ORGANISED
BOSSES
A boss expects employees to:

  • be smart, awake, alert, interested, respectful, pro-active and effective
  • follow orders and carry out requests - PROMPTLY
  • use time efficiently
  • prioritise and not procrastinate
  • query anything not clear

A boss does NOT expect to have to repeat him or herself .......

VISITORS
Never allow a visitor/presenter to ask "Are there any questions" and face silence. Always prepare something to ask, otherwise they will feel rather flat, as if nobody was interested. EMPATHY = trying to imagine what the OTHER PERSON is thinking. You HAVE to do this with your clients, and it HELPS in ALL human relations.

INTRODUCTIONS
When meeting people in business context, do your best to appear confident, clear and interested. Don't have a limp handshake. Look people in the eyes and smile. Speak CLEARLY, and not in a super soft voice. If speaking softly and apologetically for your existence is your personality, YOU HAVE TO WORK ON THAT! You have to inspire CONFIDENCE and you cannot do that if YOU are not confident.
